Global integration and the intra-urban determinants of foreign direct investment in Shanghai
Abstract*The flow of capital between cities has shaped both the global urban network and the internal structure of cities. Chinese cities have attracted a substantial amount and variety of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the past two decades. The intra-urban distribution of FDI and the location of fixed assets have been significant in their restructuring. This paper investigates the causes and consequences of different patterns of FDI within Chinese cities using Shanghai as a case study.
