Study of anti-wear additives of phosphonic acid ester type
Abstract 1. A study was made of the effect on wear in friction of several phosphonic acid esters under different specific loads and slip rates. 2. The effectiveness of phosphonic acid esters as anti-wear additives dependes on structure and may vary accodring to conditions of friction. 3. Phosphonic acid esters free from chlorine atoms are ineffective under high or low loads; esters containing a CCl3 group are effective under high and low loads, or under only high, or under only low loads. 4. Hypothetically, the varying effect of phosphonic acid esters may be due to the different chemical (chemical modification of the surface of friction) and adsorptive activities of compounds.
