Mining and quarrying wastes: A critical review
Abstract Mining and quarrying wastes pose problems of environmental pollution. To prevent this, uses must be found for these wastes. The purpose of this paper is to review the availability, distribution and uses of wastes from most mining countries of the world. Some of the uses identified for the waste materials are as concrete aggregates for construction purposes, and for production of brick and tile, cement and pozzolana and as pigments for paints. The paper stresses that by using the waste materials, natural resources will be conserved, energy will be saved and environmental pollution reduced.
