Interaction of phenol with 1-methylcyclo-olefins in the presence of a catalyst-sodium bisulphate
Abstract A study was made of the interaction of phenol with 1-methylcyclopentene and 1-methylcyclohexene in the presence of a catalyst-sodium bisulphate. It was found that a reaction temperature of 75–110°, with a duration of 2–2.5hr, molar ratio of phenol : 1-methylcycloolefin of 1 : 1, a proportion of the catalyst of 10% in terms of the phenol taken, the yield of para-(1-methyl- cycloalkyl)-phenols reaches 84.0–88.5% of theory.
