Performance of a thermosyphon with a 37-meter-long, horizontal evaporator
AbstractLaboratory tests were conducted on a thermosyphon with a 37-m-long, horizontal evaporator. This evaporator section was placed in a water tank so that the rate of ice growth on it could be determined. Unit conductance values were calculated for wind speeds of 0 to 5.4 m/s applied to the condenser section. Using these conductance values ina finite element analysis indicated that thermosyphons with horizontal evaporators and condensate return devices were adequate for use in many foundation designs in permafrost regions.
