Stability of cylindrical shells under combined wind and snow loads
AbstractStability analysis of perfect and imperfect cylindrical shells under combined wind pressures and snow loads is performed using the finite element method. A 48 degree-of-freedom (d.o.f.) thin shell element, free from both shear and membrane locking and capable of modelling shells with arbitrary imperfections, is used. Nonlinear effects due to prebuckling rotations are included. The nonlinear response is obtained using Riks-Wempner algorithm. Effect of the imperfection amplitude on the limit load points under combined wind and snow loads is studied. The snow loads are modelled as axial loads. The interaction diagrams for perfect and imperfect shells are given.
