Seismic performance of concrete-encased CFST column to steel beam joints with different connection details

Abstract The concrete-encased concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns are usually connected to steel beams in structures. In this study, a total of nine different connection details are proposed for the steel beam to concrete-encased CFST column composite joints, and their structural behavior under seismic loading was evaluated experimentally. The failure patterns, the hysteretic load-displacement relations, moment-curvature relations and the strain responses of these joints were recorded and compared. It was found that joints with the external diaphragm and through-beam details had the most convenient seismic performance among these joints.
