AbstractIn the last quarter century, it has become feasible to extend the life of reinforced concrete structures by inhibiting chloride-induced corrosion of steel. Chemical interactions can occur between the concrete system and the inhibitor-steel-chloride system. The chemical reactions of the corrosion process in concrete and of the most commonly used inhibitors are discussed, with special attention to test procedures and practical issues arising from use of inhibitors.
