Simulation of turbulent flow by discrete vortex approximation
AbstractThe aerodynamic force prediction is important for the aerodynamic instability analysis of structures. It is well known that approach flow turbulence influences the aerodynamic force. This paper presents an analytical simulation of the flow turbulence by discrete vortex approximation. The turbulence of natural wind with various scales power spectra is considered and applied to study the flow past rectangular section cylinder. The power spectra of velocity fluctuation obtained by simulation at the points of the flow field are compared with that of natural wind. The aerodynamic force acting on a rectangular cylinder is calculated.
