Prevention of effects of overhead line failures caused by ice and snow adhesion and accretion
Abstract The effects of extreme meteorological phenomena covering a vast area may cause a huge failure of a power system. The blackout dated the 8th of April 2008, which took place in the large Polish city Szczecin and the surrounding areas, requires analysis of its causes as well as its direct and indirect effects. This article presents proposals for transmission network operators aimed at improving the effectiveness of action taken during a crisis or disaster caused by meteorological phenomena.
