Use of deep sea manganese nodules as catalysts for reduction of nitric oxide with ammonia
Abstract The reduction of nitric oxide with ammonia was studied by use of deep sea manganese nodules as the catalyst. Temperatures in the range of 200–300°C were used. The initial concentrations of nitric oxide and ammonia were in the range of 500–1500 ppm and 500–1800 ppm, respectively. Total flow rates varied from 200 to 450 1.h−1, with helium as the carrier gas. An empirical rate expression was developed. The manganese nodules were found to be as effective as some commercial catalysts in the NO-NH3 reaction.
