Elastic stability of simple guyed towers
AbstractResults are presented which relate to the elastic stability of towers that are stayed at their tops by clusters of guys. Allowance is made for the self-weight of the tower, the effect that sag has on the stiffness of the cluster of guys is included, and limiting trends in response are explored and explained. A straightforward rearrangement of the parameters permits the inclusion of an external point load at the tower top and, in this form, the work is applicable to the guyed towers planned for the support of production platforms offshore.
