Temporal patterns of aircraft operations at U.S. Airports: A statistical analysis
Abstract The main purposes of this paper are twofold: (1) the description of statistical procedures for the estimation of day-of-the-week and monthly patterns of aircraft operations and (2) the application of these procedures to 24 selected Federal Aviation Administration-towered airports. Three robust statistical procedures are proposed for providing day-of-the-week patterns. A procedure to estimate representative monthly patterns is also suggested. The empirical results suggest that there are strong day-of-the-week and seasonal variations in all types of aircraft operations at the airports selected for this study. In general, the day-of-the-week and seasonal patterns vary with the types of aircraft operations and the geographical location of a airport.
