The enhancement of wave forces due to interaction effects is considered for the case of two adjacent, parallel, floating bridges. The problem is considered from a theoretical viewpoint using the linearised theory of water waves. The solution is by the method of matched eigenfunction expansions. It is shown that the so-called “wide-spacing’ approximation yields accurate results for the type of problem considered. This approximation has the advantage that only the individual single body scattering problems need be solved. The results show the possibility of very large resonant motions but with a very narrow bandwidth for the frequencies of interest.
