Estimation of wave height duration statistics
AbstractA theoretically founded parametric model for the estimation of duration statistics for significant wave height is established. Use of the model requires information both on the distribution and the average absolute rate of change of significant wave height. Results from analyses of data indicate that the model provides fairly accurate estimates of mean duration of exceedance and non-exceedance of a threshold level. The durations of exceedance and non-exceedance are found to vary considerably about the mean.
