Bacteriological monitoring of Hong Kong marine water quality
AbstractResults of both a 15-month survey of total and faecal coliform bacterial counts at five popular Hong Kong Island bathing beaches and an 8-month survey of total and faecal coliform bacterial as well as Escherichia coli counts in Tolo Harbour waters are presented. These data are examined in the context of two standards, the World Health Organization Standard and the European Economic Community Guideline for bathing waters, and the results of this bacteriological monitoring indicate that these standards were repeatedly exceeded.
