Cost analysis of domestic heat pump systems
Abstract A static heat pump model is adopted and the result of simulation is used to establish a relationship between the coefficient of performance (COP) and its two major governing factors, namely evaporator and condensor temperatures. (These two temperatures are almost equivalent to the internal temperature of the house and the external temperature.) This relationship is used in a dynamic house model to to calculate the energy consumption. The annual cumulative cost of heating the house with a heat pump system is compared with the cost of using conventional electric heaters. The cost analysis takes into account the growth of fuel cost and provides the annual and total cost of running the system and eventually calculates the payback time of the investment for the heat pump system.
