A lagrangian multi-level model of transport, transformation and deposition of atmospheric sulfur dioxide and sulfate
Abstract A multi-level Lagrangian atmospheric model for transport, transformation and dry and wet deposition of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and ‘sulfate’ (SO4 2−) is described. All processes are assumed to be reactions of first order. The rate constants vary diurnally and seasonally with different meteorological conditions. The primary purpose of the paper is to show how the model may be used to address the usefulness of control measures in situations where near- and far-field sources are making a contribution. Some examples are given, in which frequently occurring situations are simulated.
