Sport and urban development in Singapore
This paper explores the relations between sport and urban development. In particular, it examines how Singapore, a city for business, is turning towards sports development and mega events to reinforce place promotion. Analysis is offered of the city’s hosting of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting in 2005 as an illustration of the challenges and opportunities that major sport-related events create for international promotion of the city, in particular, the public image effects.
