Dynamic subsoil-coupling between rigid rectangular foundations
Abstract An analytical method to solve the mixed-boundary value problem of dynamic subsoil-coupling between a finite number of rigid, rectangular foundations is presented. The foundations are perfectly bonded to the surface of a linear-elastic, isotropic and homogeneous half-space and are subject to harmonic excitation. The mixed boundary-value problem of the dynamic subsoil-coupling has been formulated by a set of Fredholm integral equations of the first kind which are solved by the Bubnov-Galerkin method. Using this method the coupling between shear- and normal-stresses at the interface between foundation and half-space has been given full consideration. The method presented enables the description of the dynamic behaviour of a structure resting on a finite number of foundations as well as the solution of the problem of passive screening of vibrations by means of intermediate foundations.
