Distribution of hydrogen sulfide in Jiddah atmosphere
Abstract A comprehensive field study of atmospheric hydrogen sulfide concentrations was conducted in Jiddah, Saudi Arabia for the period 1984 through 1987. Hydrogen sulfide trends were developed for five stations in Jiddah. Daily, monthly and annual means, maximum and mean maximum are reported. The average H2S concentration for 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987 was 0.071 μL/L, 0.063 μL/L, 0.039 μL/L, and 0.042 μL/L, respectively. A decrease in H2S concentration from 1984 to 1987 was observed. The four-years average H2S concentration was 0.054 μL/L and a maximum of 0.460 μL/L was recorded once at Station 104 in 1984. The statistical significance of data and background information for air quality standards for the city are discussed. Analysis of data shows lower mean than any international air quality standard.
