Estimation of nitrogen dioxide concentrations in homes equipped with unvented gas space heaters
AbstractIn this paper a statistical model and a physical model of indoor nitrogen dioxide concentrations are developed in parallel. The statistical model makes use of data collected in 82 homes using convective, or “blue-flame”, unvented gas space heaters (UVGSH) as the primary heat source. The physical model includes source terms appropriate for such heaters and loss terms indicative of convective and conductive heat loss. Results from the two models show good agreement. A stochastic model based on the physical model is then developed. This model is used to predict indoor nitrogen dioxide concentration distributions in homes using UVGSH as the primary heat source in other regions not measured.
