A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
AbstractTokyo is an overgrown giant of a city that continues to grow as it prospers in the global economy. Growth includes widespread redevelopment in existing districts of the city, especially the CBD, and expansion of urbanization to new land in Tokyo Bay and distant reaches of the Kanto Plain. There are many problems that are associated with Tokyo's great size, not the least of which are crowding, expensive land and housing costs, and long and uncomfortable commuting. Yet, the city has a high standard of living and many notable urban improvements.
