Investigation on thermal performance of recycled brick aggregate concrete structural walls
Abstract The thermal properties of recycled brick aggregate concrete1 Recycled brick aggregate concrete: RBC (RBC) and recycled brick aggregate concrete structural walls2 Recycled brick aggregate concrete structural walls: RBCW (RBCW) were investigated in this paper. The orthogonal test considering the effect of four factors including the water-cement ratio, sand ratio, water consumption per unit volume, and replacement rate of recycled brick aggregate3 Recycled brick aggregate: RBA (RBA) was conducted to study the thermal conductivity and mechanical properties of RBC. Additionally, two RBCW specimens were prepared and their heat transfer coefficient was tested, and the finite element model of RBCW was established and validated. Moreover, the parametric analysis of the thermal properties of RBCW was carried out. The results show that the volumetric replacement rate of RBA has a significant effect on the thermal conductivity and dry density of RBC. The amount of water used per unit volume has a significant effect on the compressive strength of RBC. The thermal performance of RBCW is far better than that of traditional concrete structure wall, the thermal insulation performance of RBCW is slightly inferior to that of masonry wall and clay brick wall.
Highlights The factors influencing the mechanical and thermal properties of recycled brick aggregate concrete were tested. The thermal conductivity of recycled brick aggregate concrete is much less than that of ordinary concrete. The thermal performance of structural wall was tested. A finite element analysis of the thermal performance of the structural walls was carried out.
