Abstract Weddle A.E., 1974. Landscape Planning — aims and scope of a new journal. Landscape Plann., 1: 1–5. The Editor discusses the need for applied landscape planning and the problems of involving environmental scientists in this work. It is suggested that the present timing is correct to start a new journal to help with the exchange of ideas, especially to relate the academic approach and the work of professionals. A guarded view is expressed concerning the present immaturity of the subject, but with the hopeful note that professional work is making progress, for example in the U.S.A. and The Netherlands and that a new British book gives helpful guidance on land use and landscape planning techniques. The proposed scope of the journal is outlined and guidance given on the nature of the papers and other items to be published.
