Interference between two circular cylinders in tandem in turbulent flow
Abstract Investigations on the flow interference between two tandemly-arranged circular cylinders in smooth and turbulent flows were carried out at Monash University. Measurements of mean and fluctuating forces and pressures were made for a range of cylinder spacings up to 10 diameters at in flows with turbulence intensities of 0.4%, 4.5% and 11.5%. Different interference regimes were classified and the results were discussed for each regime. The present results have shown that the increase of the turbulence intensity has a marked effect on the interference mechanisms.
