The development of Helsinki metropolitan area and its future prospects
Abstract During the recent rapid growth of Helsinki the urban structure of the city has changed and low-density suburbs have mushroomed around the denser core. This unplanned expansion has led to a lack of proper services in the suburbs and to problems of overcrowding and heavy traffic in the city centre. This article looks at the way planning has addressed these problems.
