AbstractEight full-scale welded jumbo box columns fabricated with different details are selected to examine the distribution and magnitude of residual stresses. It is found that the maximum tensile residual stresses can be as high as 1·1 Fy and the maximum compressive residual stress is 0·43 Fy, where Fy is the yield stress.
