Study of the effect of filler on the fatigue behaviour of bitumen-filler mastics under DSR testing
HighlightsThe interaction of hydraulic lime with modified (SBS) bitumen was very intense. The influence of the filler type increases with its concentration in mastic. The linear viscoelastic strain limits are lower than usually applied in testing. The filler affects the response to accumulated loading of bitumen-filler mastics. The testing procedures had little effect on ranking of resistance of the materials.
AbstractThis study discusses the effect of the filler on the fatigue behaviour of bitumen-filler mastics by means of strain controlled fatigue tests, with constant and variable load amplitude, implemented in the DSR. Diluted and concentrated mastics were fabricated with two fillers and two bitumens. The results showed that though the generic behaviour is highly dependent on the bitumen, the effect of the filler is not only related to the increase of stiffness but, more importantly, it is seen in the response to repeated loading. Hence, the fatigue performance was significantly more affected by the increase in content of hydraulic lime than of limestone filler.
