Box-column to I-beam connections with external stiffeners
AbstractThis paper presents the results of the analyses, using the finite element method, to study the behaviour of externally stiffened box-column to I-beam connections. Joints with different types of stiffener, viz. triangular plate stiffeners, angle stiffeners and T-stiffeners have been studied. Redistribution of stresses and improvement of stiffness (moment-rotation characteristics) are the two important factors considered in the study, and the results indicate that T-stiffeners are the most efficient form in these respects. Connections of different configurations have also been studied.
