Pluriactivity and changing household relations in the Land van Maas en Waal, The Netherlands
Abstract Pluriactivity is a traditional phenomenon in agriculture in the Land van Maas en Waal. Nowadays, it is still an important feature in the area but in many instances the character of pluriactivity has changed. Under the influence of developments in larger society, patriarchal relations in farm households erode. Individual household members therefore no longer accede to the demands of the household, but increasingly choose their own way. These changing relationships in farm households give rise to new types of pluriactivity and new patterns of labour allocation.
