The German extensive farmland programme: Schleswig-Holstein
AbstractThe Schleswig-Holstein extensive farmland programme is one of the most comprehensive ones in Germany. On approximately half of the 27 000 hectares under contract in 1988 additional improvement measures for natural habitats have been incorporated in the management agreements. These habitats have to be maintained for at least 20 years. Contrary to the situation in The Netherlands the long term effect of the programme has not been secured by the adoption of compulsory landscape plans.
