Reinforced embankments on very poor foundations
AbstractPrevious research into the behaviour of geotextile-reinforced embankments on peat underlain by a firm base is extended to the case of peat underlain by a layer of very soft clay. The effects of rate of construction and the modulus of reinforcing fabric are examined. The use of geotextile reinforcement in conjunction with berms and lightweight fill is then considered. Finally, suggestions are made with regard to the reinforcement required for a number of situations involving embankments on peat underlain by very soft clay.
