Rapid bitumen analysis by high pressure chromatography
AbstractA collaborative R&D programme has investigated a test method for the rapid analysis of industrial bitumens. As a result a method is proposed which couples a preliminary filtration of the asphaltenes with HPLC analysis of the maltene group: the composition of the bitumen is determined in four groups - asphaltenes, saturates, aromatics and resins - with reference to a standard bitumen. The paper reviews the progress of the R&D programme and describes the recommended test method in detail.
