Sampler placement to determine emission factors from ground level area sources
AbstractEmission factors are used by state air pollution regulatory agencies to regulate emissions from sources of atmospheric pollution. Emission factors for ground level area sources (GLASs) can be determined by sampling ambient pollutant levels and using dispersion modeling to back-calculate the emission rate from a source. This manuscript describes a method used to locate samplers downwind of a GLAS to most accurately determine the emission flux from the source. Contributions from other sources, changes in particle size distributions, and measurement uncertainty are considered.
