Computer application by local governments in Japan
Abstract The application of computers to the operations and management of cities in Japan only began in the sixties—a late start compared to other developed nations. However, computer usage has been spurred by the increased administrative demands on local governments resulting from the rapid economic growth of the sixties and the early seventies and its attendant urbanization, and from the energy crisis of the last decade. Nearly all local governments currently use computers in some form or another, and the nature of their use is expanding in its extent. diversity, sophistication, and level of application.
