Civil applications of underground works in Italy
AbstractIn Italy the use of the underground for non-military purposes is highly developed only in the excavation of tunnels, e.g. for road, railway, hydroelectrical projects, underground trains and services. Owing to the generally difficult geological conditions, large underground works have been slow to develop in Italy. This paper summarizes and illustrates both existing and designed large underground projects.
RésuméEn Italie, l'utilisation du sous-sol à des fins non militaires n'est seulement hautement développée que pour l'excavation de tunnels; par exemple pour des routes, des lignes de chemin de fer, des projets hydro-électriques, des trains et des services sous-terrains. A cause des conditions géologiques généralement difficiles, les grands travaux sous-terrains ont eu du mal a se déveloper en Italie. Cet article résume et présente des grands projets sous-terrains existants ainsi que ceux en projet.
