Ground consolidation with liquid nitrogen (ln2)
Abstract A brief introduction to the method is given and the technical details of practical interest, such as the nitrogen supply system, materials, equipment and safety precautions, are discussed. Laboratory tests were carried out to ascertain basic data. The test setup, test procedure and results are set forth. Information essential to the planning of nitrogen freeze operations has been obtained. The practical application of the method is illustrated by reference to several examples. Nitrogen freezing is gaining steadily in importance, thanks to a series of technical benefits allied to the need for cleaner and safer building methods. The specific nitrogen consumption is indicated and the question of efficiency is discussed.
