AbstractAs part of a decision to centralize Helsinki's wastewater treatment operations, the city has built a new plant at Viikinmäki, located to the north of the Finnish capital. The plant treats wastewater generated by some 650,000 inhabitants of the greater Helsinki area. A residential development is planned to be constructed above the treatment plant site. The paper discusses the geology and rock engineering considerations and the costs for the project.
