A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Abstract Venice is facing problems of decaying housing stock and declining population — aspects of the city rarely appreciated by tourists. In 1973 the Italian state passed a special law allocating £200 million towards saving the city. However, since then little progress has been made to resolve the fundamental problem of flooding and Venice's fate will depend on the importance planners and politicians attach to the city's problems in the future.
