An assessment of uncertainties in fatigue analyses of steel jacket offshore platforms
In recent years as structures are constructed in deeper water depths and harsher environments, dynamic effects have become more pronounced and the resulting fatigue failure of structural members has increased. Current fatigue analyses emphasize the standard local stress, S−N curve, Palmgren-Miner rule procedure. This paper confirms the findings of previous investigations related to the uncertainties associated with the method mentioned above and, in addition, investigates the effect of flow dependent hydrodynamic force coefficients upon the member fatigue lives. A doubling of the fatigue life based on CM=2 is observed for the inertia dominant cases.
