Abstract One new application of a magnetostrictive actuator technology is a simple bending type design. The magnetostrictive actuator can provide a good stroke length that is constructed by thin laminate strip, magnet and support. The two-layer laminated strip consists of one good bending functional material layer and one magnetostrictive layer. The Terfenol-D strip material is used for the magnetostrictive layer, and choose the plastic strip material for the bending functional layer, thus a maximum deflection can be obtained during the influence of magnet force. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new available feature for the center deflection of laminate strip under bending in the magnetostrictive actuator. The center deflection performs like as the stroke length in the actuator. The important of this application might be contributed to the pollution reduction innovation of mechanical part designs in field of green energy, because the bending type magnetostrictive actuator can self-deform to produce stroke length with suitable actuation control in the future.
