Geotextile ‘reinforced’ unpaved logging roads: the effect of anchorage
AbstractThe use of geotextiles in the construction of unpaved logging roads is becoming widespread. The geotextiles are often used with the intention of reinforcing the road structure, with the expectation of increased road stiffness. It is often assumed that using geotextiles of high modulus will result in much stiffer road sections than if low modulus geotextiles are used. However, the research reported here, in conjunction with previous work, indicated that a higher geotextile modulus had no significant effect on the overall road stiffness for quasi-static strip load tests carried out on large-scale model road sections, whether the geotextile was fully anchored or completely free at its outer edge.
