A survey of site management practice on some selected sites in Nigeria
Abstract A convenience survey of seven construction sites was conducted to determine the problems construction firms encounter on projects, and to evaluate their response to the problems. Shortage of sub-contracting and specialist firms, incomplete information for construction, scarcity of construction resources, communication with the head office, project funding and client's shortcomings are major problems inhibiting contractor's performance. There is scope for improving the contractors' pre-tender planning, plant utilization, welfare services for staff and the use of construction planning techniques on sites but the first step is for clients to be better clients.
