Mechanical property and microstructural changes during friction stir processing of cast aluminum 2285 alloy
AbstractFriction stir processing (FSP) is an emerging surface engineering technology that can eliminate casting defects locally by refining microstructures, thereby improving the mechanical properties of material. This paper presents the effects of FSP on microstructure and mechanical properties of cast aluminum alloy of 2285 grade at three different feed rates viz. 10mm/min, 12mm/min and 15mm/min under two different speeds 1400 and 1800rpm. On processing, the work material was observed to have increased tensile, yield strengths and ductility properties. The observations have been elaborated in detail along with the microstructures of parent and processed specimens.
