AbstractThis paper presents a study of the abrasive wear behaviour of austempered ductile irons (ADI’s) with dual matrix structures under different conditions. The wear resistance model was developed based on the type of the material, applied load and sliding distance. The orthogonal array and analysis of variance were employed to find out which design parameters significantly affect the quality characteristic. The experimental results show that the sliding distance was the major parameter among other control factors on abrasive wear of both types of materials, followed by applied load for ADI’s austempered at 180min. For ADI’s austempered at 60min, however, type of the material played a significant effect on the abrasive wear, followed by applied load. Moreover, a good agreement between the predicted and actual wear resistance was observed at 95% confidence level.
