Beach nourishment and monitoring programme
Abstract The aim of monitoring a beach nourishment project is to meet the need for hydraulic, morphological and biological information from the different areas involved (borrow and fill area), before and during the operation and in the evaluation phase. As the data of long-running system monitoring programmes in general are not sufficient, extra information has to be gathered by means of a project monitoring programme. These two kinds of monitoring programmes are compared. Data analysis together with a comprehensive visualization and interpretation are of vital importance in the project scheme. Another important aspect of the project is the evaluation, integrating the hydraulic, morphological and biological data. Explanatory a project monitoring scheme is presented. Factors involved in quality assurance of a measuring system are the measuring precision and the representativity of the collected data. Finally, general recommendations concerning the monitoring practice of beach nourishment are given.
