A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
AbstractThe need to repair and renovate sewer and pressure pipelines without disruption to surface pavings and while causing the minimum environmental disruption to surface pavings and while causing the minimum environmental nuisance in terms of visual amenity, noise and traffic congestion has given rise to many novel techniques. In many cases the systems introduced have been unable to deliver a completed product capable of carrying the same volume of fluid as the original network. However a unique solution has been devised to fulfil these criteria and after two years of commercial installation in the United States the U-liner system is now being used by City authorities in Europe. This paper serves to outline some of the technical problems met and overcome in developing a repair package that is now being actively used in many environments and which should in the future be more widely implemented to save older distribution systems without surface disturbance.
