Evaluation of the suitability of spent or dead Corcyra cephalonica (Pyralididae: Lepidoptera) moths as food for rearing Chrysoperla carnea (Chrysopidae: neuroptera)
AbstractExperiments were conducted to check the suitability of spent or dead Corcyra cephalonica (Stainton) moths as food for mass rearing of Chrysoperla carnea Stephens. The results revealed that use of this foodstuff resulted in substantial increase in larval and pupal durations of C. carnea. Survival rates of larvae and pupae were also lowered and the adults failed to lay viable eggs. Therefore, this food material was found to be an inadequate source of nourishment in mass multiplication programmes of C. carnea.
