Physico-mechanical properties of carbonated concrete
AbstractThe experimental study of the influence of carbonation on mechanical properties of cement concrete is reported. Accelerated carbonation tests in hermetic chambers at enhanced concentration of CO2 were performed. Four series of concrete specimens with different concrete mix proportions and curing conditions are compared. Increase of density, strength, modulus of elasticity and shrinkage due to carbonation was found out. The magnitudes of changes were proportional to the cement content in fresh composites. The brittle failure of carbonated concrete was observed. Rates of increase are compared by use of hyperbolic approximation parameters. The increase of shrinkage increments was slower than that of density increments.
